Ring Blue Topaz
Ring Blue Topaz

How can I tell if my blue topaz gemstone is real?
Okay so it's probably a very simple question .. But I obtained this 14K gold ring with a large blue topaz in it as a gift ... I wanted to know if it was real or not, but the jeweler of the city wanted to charge me $ 150 just to watch him, I said then that a little goes ... =] So how do I know if it's true or not, without going to a jeweler?
Topaz is much harder than glass and you should be able to scratch glass with it. Is a very risky, but if I tried anything that would be very very sweet, excessive pressure could damage the topaz. Topaz Real is somewhat fragile and care must be taken to avoid having given a serious blow. There are clubs minerals may be local, that might help. I also try to ask in an antique shop or a consignment shop, a knowledgeable person could not be happier to share his experience in identifying GEM with you. Heck, there are rocks and minerals store if we is with you May I have an idea. Or, um, a toy shop ... but may lie. If genuine 14k gold, it seems difficult to imagine that would be a fake (glass) in her GEM. A little heat clear topaz false, but not blue.
