Ring Cleaner
ring cleaner
What else can I use to clean a diamond ring besides jewelry cleaner?
Sudsey ammonia--get at any grocery store! Soak overnight and, if needed, scrub with a VERY soft brush to get stuck-on particles off the underside of the stone or anything caught in the gallery (mounting). Works like a charm!
Only use this method on hard non-porous gemstones like diamonds, sapphires, tanzanite---not on pearls, turquoise, etc.
Toothpaste does not work well at all since it contains abrasives which will scratch and dull the stone's surface over time and will certainly dull the finish of the metals. I wouldn't use something made to scrape plaque off my teeth to clean an expensive gemstone--but hey, that's your choice.
I agree w/ allie---white vinegar also does a nice job.
