CZ engagement ring & Engagement Wedding Ring....Wrong or Bad Luck?

Am I still wrong to want a cz engagement ring, and a real Diamond Wedding Ring? I figure the wedding ring will be the ring that a women wears longer (say if she chooses not to wear the engagement ring with her wedding ring). But my women coworkers say "go for the BIG engagement ring!" One side of me wants my boyfriend to get a decent engagement ring (real diamond-I know he can afford a *small* one), but the other side wants a Gorgeous Ring to show off (meaning expensive), but I don't want to ask( ok *hint*) that much of my man-thus resorting to the option of an average sized and Beautiful CZ ring.
I like the idea of getting a CZ ring and not telling anyone that it's "CZ", but what do I do, when someone asks "where did he get it?"
Also, is there any bad luck involved with a cz engagement ring? (I'm not super-superstitious, just want to be as traditional as possible)

I had a cz ring for my 2nd engagement ring, I've gotten 3 and the one I have is sticking, (the first one had too many diamonds but it had sentimental value I couldn't trade it is, the 2nd was a cz and it looked so real!! but it just wasn't the right one, then I settled on a nice aquamarine)

it's your ring and normal people cannot tell the difference between a cz ring and a diamond, unless you weigh them, cz's are lighter.

EDIT: and if they ask where he got it, just say you know I didn't ask him I was so caught up in the moment but isn't is beautiful?
