Has anybody read George R.R. Martin's 'A Song of Fire and Ice' series? (or the story so far...)?

... if so who are your 3 favourite characters and why? (without giving anything away!)

i'm just about to finish 'A Storm of Swords' and have 'A Feast for Crows' sitting on the shelf waiting for me. it's probably the greatest fantasy i have read since 'The Lord of the Rings'... i can't put these books down!

also what else can you recommend that are similar to these two epic tales...('A Song of Fire...' and 'The Lord of the Rings)... i imagine they'd be hard to beat!

A Song of Ice & Fire is certainly one of the best fantasy series to be published since LotR.

Three favorite characters...hmm...I would have to say Tyrion, Bran, and Jon, probably in that order. Tyrion is the most complete character in the series - intelligent, humorous, self-effacing, tortured, truthful. Many of the characters are very well rounded.

Though it is nearly impossible to LIKE them, I think that Littlefinger, Jaime Lannister, and Varys are all fascinating characters.
