how do u tell a poisonous snake from a safe one?
can u only tell with certain snakes, or is there a way to tell for all kinds? we recently found a ring snake in our yard, and that got us curious.
There is no rule that will work at all times in all places. The triangular head is found in lots of snakes. The vertical pupil just means that the snake is nocturnal. The rhyme about red and yellow won't work outside the U.S.
Always assume that the snake is venomous until you are sure it is not. Learn to identify the snakes that live in your area, at least the venomous ones. I like the Peterson field guides but the Golden Guide to reptiles is also pretty good.
