Do diamonds really matter in engagement rings?
I want complete honesty, please. My boyfriend and i have been talking of getting married in the next year or so and i have been looking at rings. I was looking online and found one that i thought was beautiful, but it was not made of real diamonds: "They are the finest European stones, made to have the similar clarity and brilliance as authentic diamonds" I have always felt that if it isn't a real diamond than it would be like a fake relationship or something. But he doesn't have much money (neither do i). How would you feel??
Here is a picture of the ring: http://cgi.ebay.com/His-Her-Matching-3pcs-Engagement-Wedding-Ring-Set_W0QQitemZ170364434069QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item27aa82f695&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
The diamond industry has warped women into thinking that if you don't have a REAL diamond, your don't have a REAL relationship. Don't buy into the hype. They are trying to sell DIAMONDS. They are also the ones who came up with the "two months salary" bulls h i t. Your boyfriend could give you a sugar bowl, ask you to marry him and you'd still be engaged. Giving diamonds is a relatively new "tradition". Throughout the world, MOST women do not have a Diamond Engagement Ring. MOST do not get an engagement ring, and if they do, it is very modest, with an inexpensive stone. Are they any less in love, any less committed to each other or any less married? of course not!
You asked me to be completely honest. I think the whole "big diamond engagement ring" nonsense is just that - nonsense.
This is also coming from a woman who LOVES jewelry and has tons of it. I just don't see what one (a diamond) has to do with the other (love/commitment and marriage).
